Security Issues

Introduction

British companies are spending more time and money to protect themselves from threats to IT security, despite claims from some sectors of the technology industry that the war against hackers and virus writers is the winner (Hughes 378). This is one of the five key findings of Butler Group, a leading IT research in Europe and advisory organization, based on its analysis of the results obtained in 1 quarter of 2006, "UK IT Priorities Survey" conducted ZDNet.co.uk, the leading site technology UK and property of CNET Networks UK.

Although research has shown that companies prioritize investment in anti-virus, anti-spyware and network security, it also clearly shows that other important areas of risk, such as identity and access management, mostly being over looked.

The survey results show that the number one priority of IT professionals the UK technology continues to be a security risk management is the predominant factor motivating (Vacca 536). Other top priorities are the development of applications, networking and communications, server hardware and desktop computers.

Almost everyone who gets online is under threat. Internet security threats are one of the biggest problems on the Internet today. The problem is that people who want to attack your computer and the computers of people that one know not to create sophisticated techniques to create problems, instead they focus on common failures that give them access. When those who get the Internet to know how these attacks occur, these attacks can be lessened or even prevented in most cases.

Some of the major Internet security threats are:

Web servers and services

Many servers by default, HTTP web expose visitors every time the entrance to these sites (Preetham 337). You must be sure that one has patches that were released over the past few years, and that your computer does not use the default settings.

Password protection

Passwords are certainly a huge part of your online security. You'll find that almost every site one visit, which is engaged in online transactions, e-mail address and password to use trade to make sure that one are who one say one are(Simson Gene 954). This means that one not only needs to choose a password that cannot be easily figured out, but one should also keep it safe and not share it with anyone. Do not use the same password for all accounts and trying to come up with a password that contains letters, numbers and special characters.

Windows remote access services

Most systems provide methods for remote access, which can be great when one need to access information from other places, but it means that other people with the right tools could get access to your information as well(Man 405). When using remote access services one must be sure that one use a good firewall protection service, as well as other security software that can help one to prevent unauthorized access to anybody except one and those one authorize.
