Commentary of My Leadership Skills

Introduction

Peter F. Drucker asserts, “Success in the knowledge economy comes to those who know themselves—their strengths, their values, and how they best perform” (Drucker, 2005, p.2). In the article, Drucker (2005) has argued that the most accomplished leaders are those who have taken the time to assess themselves and have learned how to manage their strengths and weaknesses. The best way to get success in life is to maximize the strengths, minimize the weaknesses, foresee the opportunities and get prepared for potential threats.

In this paper, I will follow the given steps so that that I can develop a correct portrait of my leadership strengths:

Describe the process I took to gather feedback.

Provide an analysis of information I gathered from others about my “Reflected Best Self," including common themes that emerged.

Provide a self-portrait based on the information gathered.

Redesign my job based on the self-portrait.

Section 1: The Data Collection Process

In order to complete this repost I have used both primary and secondary sources of data collection. The secondary sources of data collection were the articles that were provided (Kindly see references). After getting the thorough understanding of the topic from the given articles, I have carefully analyzed the best method of primary data collection. The purpose of data collection is to collect evidence that proves my leadership skills. The data that I have collected depicts that. I have used e-mails and reminder phone calls to collect the data because these were the most feasible options to target the chosen respondents. I have collected data from the management team members, acquaintances and friends. To make this research highly credible, I have included all the data including both the high positives and low negatives have also included my supervisors, such as my former boss, Stephen French, who is supervising the engineering department. He is the vice president of support services and my supervisor for 11 years. He provided a reference to the DOL program. Last but not the least, my wife, who has been a true friend and mentor, provided her feedback. I sent out fifteen requests. My last step was to phone everyone to make him or her aware that I would be sending him or her, an e-mail requesting his or her participation in the survey. I also wanted to make sure that their e-mail addresses were correct. Unfortunately, the response was not as good as I expected. I contacted around 75 people through email to be included into my survey. Their responses revealed several interesting themes.

Section 2: Data Analysis

In this section, I have analyzed the data collected from the selected audience. The purpose of this research is to explore how people perceive me as a leader. In order to achieve this objective, I have done “feedback analysis” because in the article named “Managing oneself”, Drucker has argued, “The only way to discover your strengths is through feedback analysis” (Drucker, 2005, ...
