Introduction

The main character in the novels is Henry, who was married to Mrs. Dashwood. Mrs. Dashwood was the mother of the main protagonists of the novel. John Dashwood was his son. This novel revolves around the Dashwood family.

The fundamental theme of this novel is about marriage, class differences and the influence of money in the lives of girls. The story begins with the Dashwood women are trapped in the laws of heredity. Women are portrayed as weak and have a bleak future. They cannot work to live and no money. The only solution is to see their marriage problems. But marriage also has great skills as brides without dowries are not suitable for men.

Jane described a number of restrictions on women in this male dominated society. Women are not allowed to own property. The women were only supposed to stay at home, preparing food and to marry.
