The purpose of this study is to more clearly define servant leadership by identifying primary characteristics of the phenomenon through a Delphi study. It is described that in servant leadership, service comes before leadership. In this study, 12 characteristics are identified as primary characteristics of servant leadership. These are humility, valuing people, trust, listening, caring, service, integrity, empowering, serving others' needs before their own, love, collaboration, and learning.
