Introduction

The paper discusses the research proposal on gay sex tourism and its homophobia in London. Homophobia is a word that refers to an irrational fear and contempt towards a particular group or activity. The research analyses the homophobia that is established towards gay sex tourist in London.

Research rationale

As the tourism industry targets the gay tourists, there are a great number of people travelling to London with their partners or for the purpose of meeting the new ones. London is one of the attractive travel destinations that encourage the gay sex tourist to travel here. However, an important aspect is to examine if the gay sex homophobia have decreased in the past few years or is it still considered as a taboo among a large group of people in London.

To investigate the extent of gay sex homophobia among citizens?

To examine the role of the tourism sector in organizing the gay sex tourism trips by using necessary structures and networks?

To critically conclude the phenomenon of homophobia towards gay sex tourist in London and the reasons behind it.

Literature review

A number of studies have been conducted by various researchers to explore the relation between homophobia and gay sex travel. These studies have been conducted by Luck, Waitt, Georges, Ryan, and Neito. The studies have revealed that travelling and gay sex tourism is leisure's that are compatible with each other are increasing the homophobia among people as the gay tourist arrives frequently in London.

The study by Luck (2002) gives and account of the gay sex homophobia that ahs increases in London duet to the attractive destinations and pleasure seeking behaviour of gay tourists. Luck investigates the reasons for the gay sex homophobia in London and at the role that the tourism industry and the public sector play in gay tourism. According to him, the transition of circuit parties for gay men and the option for lesbians are attractive for the tourists. The lesbians find themselves presented with more options than just ten years ago when the men circuit parties began to take off. According to the authors; opinion, the extent of homophobia has decreased in London due to the changes in the sexual practices and consideration fro equality for all. The behaviour of sex tourism industry has been imperative in decreasing this fear of sex tourists.

According to Ryan (1996) being gay is a choice which has not been wholeheartedly accepted in society no matter if the legal systems are in favour of gays and the gay sex tourist. Nieto emphasises that the most significant fear that people have of gay sex tourist is that they cannot be trusted to have long term relationships due to various health issues that these individuals can transfer to their sex partners
