Reason for selecting this Company

The company that I have selected for my research is an oil marketing company. As we know that oil, marketing is a very challenging business in the whole world. It is very hard to sustain in the market if a company is new due to extreme pressures from the existing companies as well as the strict regulations imposed by the petroleum regulatory authorities. This challenging nature as well as the changing environment of the business and industry has made me to select this industry.

As far as the company is concerned, I have selected the Shell Company for my research. This is a company, which has its Dutch origin. This company has its presence in all the areas of the world. Where there is a need of Oil, there a person can find Shell (Ehteshami and Wright, 2008, Pp 36-45). The other major reason why I choose shell was due to the high strategic tools used by their management as well as the long term planning of the company. They always set a long-term goal benchmarked against new height in the Industries. Thus, by going through this company I feel we can learn new strategies as we, as new tools for understanding the financial position of this company. It will also give us an overall Idea of the industry in which it is prospering.

Introduction

Shell Oman marketing company is engaged in the downstream business in the Country Oman. It is engaged in the business of providing services and sells a vast range of shell aviation, automotive and marine products. In it, there are a various lubricants, greases and fuels. The company has around 139 shells station located all over Oman. These stations provide state of the art services to its end users. The company operates through four different segments in the State of Oman. These are commercial sales, Retail sales, lubricants and aviations.

The retail segment is engaged in the market segment and sells the shell fuels, greases and lubricants. These are sold through 142 service stations, 139 Shell retail filling stations and 54 Shell Select stores. At these service stations, a wide variety of goods and services can be availed. Goods includes like snacks, household items like biscuits etc. At these stations, there is a facility of Automated Teller machines. The customers can also make use of car washing and oil change facility (Gause, 1994 Pp 63-78). This shows the level and quality of service provided by the company. All these service stations and retail filling stations are located at strategic locations in the different city of this state of Oman. The commercial sales segment of the company is engaged in the selling of commercial lubes and fuels through different lubricant outlets in Oman. Through the aviation segment of the company Jet, fuel is sold at different terminals in the country.
