How Democracy Failed in Germany and Holocausts

Introduction

As Hitler and the Nazi's power rose in Germany during the 1920s? 30s and 40s? after World War I? we begin to see how this happened and compare it to the concepts of Democracy which we live by today. We can explore how Democracy had failed in Nazi? Germany and relate it to the events? which surround our world even until this very day.

Discussion

The people of Germany now lived under and for the symbol of the Swastika with Nazi rallies? parades? marches and meetings. Now that Hitler was in a huge position of power? he could turn his attention to the reason why he ventured into politics which was his hatred of Jews. The democratic view of freedom? is to do what one wants but not at the expense of others' freedom. Even though Democracy is always changing? it still equals freedom in most cases. The Nazis had a different view on freedom? however They believed that common good comes before the individual good at all costs? which means even the sacrificing of one's own life? if it comes to it. For example? the Nazis demanded that the German people have the same equal rights as other nations? but if you were a Jew you weren't considered a countrymen and therefore not a citizen of Germany (Gutman, 2000).

Everybody must participate in order to accomplish something. Hitler followed this rule when joining and then recruiting people for the Nazi party. Thousands of people joined the German Worker's Party and therefore supported the efforts of the Nazis. Many people's frustration was resulting in hatred and discrimination toward those who were American citizens but yet came from a different background.
