Introduction

When one tends to perceive of the term household one tends to create a mental image whereby there is a family living under one roof and that family constitutes of a wife and a husband along with off springs. This tradition is present since the very start and hence has become a norm which is the acceptable criteria in the society. But today the statistics tend to communicate something different something that is unexpected. Besides the traditional concept of mother and father along with children, has emerged the non-traditional structure of families. The number of non-traditional family structure is said to be increasing and are currently more in number than the traditional. The various forms of non-traditional family structures that are prevalent today are:

Single Parent Family

Traditional Family

Gay Parents Family

Lesbian Parents Family

Our source is interest is gay marriages and traditional marriages. Since the declaration of gay rights and gay marriages by President Obama there have been 2 different schools of thoughts that have arisen. One being for gay marriages whereby the school of thought states that Gay couples; be it a male couple or a female couple, has the right to live as couples and be given the same rights as that of traditional couples. Main rights mainly include of adoption of children at a tangible level and being granted equal rights at an intangible level. The debate has said to be going strong today since the school of thought that is against it states that allowance of gay marriages and terming them as normal couples and giving them the same right as that of traditional families is said to be against the religion and is a sin.

Gay Couples should not be given the same rights as that of traditional couples. The non traditional family has emerging trend of same sex family partner or homosexual partners, let say a male and another male in commitment and planning to have a family by adopting children (Stacey & Biblarz, 2001). The concept of homosexuality exists around the world and was initially a great source of opposition in many countries as people believed in the fact that it is against the norm of the society and to top it all it is against the religion. The homosexuals still were persistent in having rights to form a family and live together like any traditional or single parent family. It was their constant trials that and fighting obstacles that countries have now adjusted their rules and regulations and have legalized gay marriages. However there are still many states in USA that have still not agreed to the concept of gay marriages and the concept of adoption (APA, 2004).
