Single Parenthood and Delinquency

Delinquency of juveniles is closely related to single parent households because the development of children takes place inside the household. The attachment of children to the rest of the world is due to their immediate relationship with their parents. They learn positive and negative behaviors and actions in their home. The disrupting situations in the parenthood or immediate family may cause serious implications to the personality of children. Morse (2003) identifies the fact that children having single parent or no parents commit crimes more than children who lives with their parents. The author is correct in the observation that children generally learn the feelings of trust, empathy and reciprocity from their primary relationships that include mother and father. It is the responsibility of parents to teach the combination of fairness, reciprocity, empathy and self command to their children. The failure from the part of parents is compensated by the society who manages these behaviors in the person. In this way, these children get rehabilitation, incarceration or controlled by the society. As a result of their crimes, they are sent to the prisons (Morse, 2003).

This issue is also observed by Ariela (1986) who conducted a study on the plight of prisoner children. The author examined the factors related to the delinquency of children. The study examines the problems of adjustments that the children face as a result of the separation of their parents. It specifically focuses on the separation of father from a family. The study identifies the predicting variables that affect the successful adjustment to the incarceration of father of a family (Ariela, 1986).
