Sleep and Happiness

Introduction

Sleep and happiness are two inter-related and directly dependent factors (Craskadon, 2007) as people cannot sleep properly when they are sad, on the other hand people cannot even sustain happy behavior if they don't get a proper sleep (Strauch, 2004). As Strauch (2004) argue that if an individual don't get proper sleep for more than two days then his behavior would start to change, he may found certain activities of pleasure as irritating. Identical relation can be found with happiness, if an individual is not happy or upset for any particular reason he cannot sleep properly due to the metal stress and consistent thinking about the event of unhappiness. Sleep and happiness are two psychologically associated factors which directly affect the activities of brain of a person (Craskadon, 2007), thus it is significant for any person to balance the ration between these two psychologically associate factors as imbalance in the ratio of one factor will directly affect the other. This study will attempt to explore the association between these two factors as to further validate the previous conducted researches like (Wolfson, & Carskadon, 1998) or to find out any new aspect that may not have been considered by the researchers mentioned above.

Significance of the study

Sleep and happiness are two psychologically associated factors and as different researches have proved close combination between these two factors. However, in previously conducted research there are certain aspects that have been neglected so far which will be considered in this study, like the time of sleeping, nature of happiness, what is the state of happiness for any individual. As these are certain important factors that needed attention in order to validate the research and to find the association between these two factors.

Research Question

This study will attempt to answer the following question in order to find the association between sleep and happiness, the two closely associated psychological factors.

What is the definition of Happiness and sleep for respondents?

Does number of hours slept each day affect a person's overall level of happiness?

To what extent sleep affect the level of happiness?

How could happiness affect the number of hours a person slept?

What is the ideal number of hours a person should sleep?

Literature Review

To learn our brain needs dreams, and to dream one must sleep properly. As dreaming helps people to find various answers which they might not discover while awake. Dreaming creates links to certain situation that will lead to new ideas. The repetition of past events is helping to select, to forget unpleasant or unimportant events and help to memorize better happy events. Sleeping can be categorized in different types which include the dreamless deep sleep and REM (rapid eye movement) in which people experience dreams. This also keep activate two parts of the brain, which enable an individual to find solutions between certain situations.
