Construct in social sciences can defined as (a) an idea or a concept not directly observable or measurable (i.e., a facet of a theory), (b) a concept inferred or constructed from empirical data to explain a phenomenon in an integrated way, or (c) an abstract (instead of operational) definition of a phenomenon or concept that is manifested in other observable or empirical concepts or consequences.
