In order to be able to discuss and understand why sociological theories could be divided into "consensus" and "conflict" perspective, each member must be defined. "Consensus is the concept of a society in which the absence of conflict is seen as the equilibrium state of a society based on common or widespread agreement among all members of society. The conflict can be latent or apparent, and refers to a disagreement or clash between opposing ideas, principles, or people. conflict theory, therefore, a theory or set of theories, which focuses on conflict in human society. Sociological theorists are often divided into periods of conflict or consensus theorists depend on their point of view of society. Therefore, in order to discuss the matter as early sociological commentators describe as a conflict or consensus theorists, their sociological perspective must first understand.

Conflict theory, therefore, a theory or set of theories, which focuses on conflict in human society [Jary and Jary, 2000:105]. Discourse theory of conflict and prospects for the emergence of conflicts and that the causes of conflict in particular human society. Or we can say that conflict theory deals with disparate aspects of human society. Conflict theory originated from sociology of conflict, crisis and social change. Consensus theory, on the other hand, the sociological perspective or collection of theories, in which the social order and stability / social forms of regulation-based attention. In other words, consensus theory is concerned with the maintenance or continuation of the social order in society, in connection with the accepted norms, values, rules and regulations, recognition or collectively, of society or in a particular society itself. It emerged from the sociology of public order and social stability / social regulation.

Formal theories

Put them in the perspective of consensus and conflict sociological theories are reflected in the works of some of the dominant social theorists. The dominant classical social theorists such as Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim and Max Weber. And other prominent social theorists such as Talcott Parsons and Robert Merton, Louis Althusser and Ralf Dahrendorf, and Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer. It is important to note that the conflict and consensus perspectives of sociological theory were divided into four categories or four paradigm-frame in which a person sees the world. This is a radical humanism and radical Structuralism are set in accordance to the conflict theory, interpretation, and sociology (structural) Functionalism / Systems Analysis, which are assigned to a consensus perspective. Each of classical and contemporary social theorists (and theories), above, built into one of four categories or paradigms.

Well, first let's look at Karl Marx and the theory of conflict, there are two interpretations or paradigms of Marx's theory of conflict, radical humanism and radical structuralism.
