Renewable energy resources, called sustainable or alternative energy, are energies generated from natural resources such as wind, sunlight, tide, hydro, biomass and geothermal which are naturally replenished. (Koot 2005:771)Energy crisis, climate changes such as atmosphere temperature rise due to increase of greenhouse gases emission and Kyoto Protocol restrictions in generation of these gases, coupled with high oil prices, limitation and depletion of fossil fuels reserves make renewable energies more noticeable. (Pisu 2007:506)Moreover, since many remote rural areas in all over world are not electrified, for example about 72 million households in rural India do not have access to electricity , one of interesting utilization of renewable energies is to electrify many remote villages and rural areas or rugged terrain located so far from power stations and distribution networks or utility lines which are uneconomical to install. Vulnerability to unpredictable climatic changes and dependency of renewable energy systems on weather conditions remain among their drawbacks.

Concern efficiency design to reduce fuel consumption

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have emerged as most viable short- to mid-term solution for improving energy conversion efficiency of road vehicles , in particular for urban application. (Katrašnik 2009:1924) Besides hybrid electric cars, busses and trucks hybrid electric motorcycles and scooters also posses potential to reduce environmental pollution in particular geographic environments . If plug-in option is not considered, it is necessary to characterize fuel economy of HEVs at balanced energy content of electric storage devices (ES), i.e. energy content of ES at beginning of test cycle equals energy content of ES at end of test cycle, to enable credible comparison of different vehicle topologies and configurations. (Chan 2007:704)This condition can be fulfilled either by repeating test cycles until energy content deviation of ES is below specified margin, or to correct fuel consumption based on energy content deviation of ...
