Introduction

“Soldier's Pay” is the first novel of William Faulkner, an American writer and Noble Prize laureate. The novel deals with the World War I and its aftermaths. The novel was originally titled Mayday which Faulkner began working on during the spring of 1925. Initially he started by pulling together some of his short stories that he had written earlier to develop them into an extended but connected narrative. The World War I bore special significance for Faulkner as the war had haunted his memories for a long time to come.
