Sound Barriers

Introduction

The Building enclosure is the obvious separator between the exterior and interior of the Architecture. The exterior of the building acts as the protective shell of the building that help the building to maintain its interior environment along with the several services (HVAC, Electrical other services) running inside the building. And moreover it helps protecting the building from certain climatic changes. The internal linings serve as the specific combination of Engineering and architecture of the building. This all comes under the subject of Building science and climatology.

The physical structure of the building consists of foundation, walls and roof structure, furthermore doors and windows are also included. The performance, compatibility, feasibility, detailing, their inter relationship and interactions with the strength and durability are the key aspects that should be determined in the enclosure systems of the building. Acoustics and Noise Control refers to the control of sound that transmitted through any of the solid or fluid media, and through any medium that helps in its propagation. As it is the prevalence of the different nature of waves with several frequencies, so it is control through different measures that varies from the types of sound that has to be treated.

Discussion

External noise may be cut off and reduced through several construction techniques that selectively increase the sound insulating value of the exterior of engaged structures. The following sound barriers systems may provide design and construction requirements for declination of interior noise. This range of sound barrier systems can be used between the room, floors and exteriors to control the noise. The factors that will be consider will be the absorption and reflection of sound, Db reductions, building code requirement and many other aspects.

Insulation- Residential Insulation

It is one of the most important type of insulation that is used in residential construction is the fibre glass insulation. Fiber Glass insulation comes in cut pieces of length up to 105” and height up to 70'.Fibre glass is also made in loose fill that may be waft in the walls and attics. It can be fixed with the help of blowing machines. Several manufactures produce fiber glass insulation for new and existing commercial buildings as well as for the residential buildings

Acoustic Thermal Batts

These are light density batts made up of fiber glass; they are usually used in the construction of steel. In interior walls friction fit batts can be install, while in ceiling these batts can be installed directly on the suspended ceiling. The faced thermal batts are installed all together as they have no tabs in between them. The purpose of their use is to improve the acoustical and thermal control.

Acoustic Board

It is the rigid glass fiber board with the black resistant face that is painted in black. It is used for the sound control in theatres, studios and the places where entertainment facilities are offer.

Acoustic Blanket

It has abuse resistant surface made up of black colour blanket .I t is mainly used in sound studios and big halls ...
