Hunting is one of the most largely pursued sport activity, in context of, leisure. It involves chasing and killing animals, most precisely, mammals for the purpose of recreational pleasure, eating or commerce. It is the earliest activity human performed, which dates back almost to the arrival of mankind over the planet earth.

The paper discusses hunting as a sport and its origination. It also discusses different types of hunting, and regions for hunting specific animals. It discusses the reasons underneath survival of hunting up to this day. The paper builds a debate over why hunting in necessary, as well as, why it should be eradicated. It also throws light on the environmental laws regarding hunting. In the end, it presents recommendations about continuation of hunting.

'Hunting' definition

Hunting is the pursuing sport which encompasses the act of chasing a living thing, in order to, kill it. Usually, it is pursued for wild animals for the purpose of food, trade and leisure activity. Animals also hunt other animals for the purpose of eating, which is known as “predation”. Hunting usually involves animal species termed as 'games', they include mammals, migratory, as well as, non migratory birds. It can also be used to kill animals and insects which cause unhygienic diseases in any densely populated region.

The history of hunting

Hunting has an immensely ancient history. It is evident for the history that the earliest men were hunters. They pursued hunting as the only source of food, and ate hunted animals. Hunting is even older then the discovery of fire. Man, in his earliest times depended on raw meat of hunted animals. Consequently, a large number of weapons have been developed for hunting over time (Anon, N.d.). The history of hunting is divided in four different time periods:

Pre-civilization: it is the basic era, the very beginning of human civilization, where men used to bring food for women to cook for the rest of home. It was solely for survival. The weapons mostly included wood, craft, bones, plat, slings and spears.

Evolution of civilization: here, hunting became a profession. People with hunting skills, animal handling knowledge and suitable for hunting. Later, particular people were selected to feed their communities. The Romans were the first to begin hunting as a sporting activity.

The middle ages: Here, hunting was the primary source of food; nevertheless, it was restricted and prohibited. Only the elite class was allowed to hunt for food, as well as, for sporting

The industrial age: the invention of weapons started taking place. Hunting farms were developed and hunting was no more a fodder source but an immensely popular leisure activity or commerce.
