The name of the board that is discussed in this paper is of the state of North Carolina. The name of the board is North Carolina Licensure in Counseling Credentialing Board Process.

Mission of the board

Ever since the implementation of the licensing act of 1994, this board is indulged in the activities so that all the provisions that are present in the bill can be implemented. As guidance the board utilizes the ethical codes as well as national standards for the preparation of the counselor (ncblpc.org, 2012).

Regulatory Authority and Scope

This part describes about the functioning of North Carolina Licensure in Counseling Credentialing. The following part of the paper gives details that what are the different authorities and regulatory bodies under which North Carolina Licensure in Counseling Credentialing works (ncblpc.org, 2012).

Statutes and rules that govern the board's activities

The board of North Carolina was established according to the statute of the Licensed Professional Practicing Counselor Act (LPC Act). It was on July 24, 1993, when Licensed Professional Practicing Counselor Act (LPC Act) was ratified as Article 24, Chapter 90, General Statutes of the State of North Carolina, to become effective July 1, 1994. This board works under the Board of Ethics Committee. Board of Ethics Committee reviews the complaints. Besides that there is no particular body or authority that regulates or oversees the work of the North Carolina Licensure in Counseling Credentialing Board (ncblpc.org, 2012).

As mentioned above that the board utilizes the ethical codes as well as national standards for the preparation of the counselor. There are two sources that are used by the board for the national standards for the preparation of professional counselors. Out of these two sources, the first source is of National Board of Certified Counselors. The responsibility of National Board of Certified Counselors is to formulate the standards through which the certification and preparation of the counselor take place. National Board of Certified Counselors has also formulated the National Counselor Examination. In order to gauge the eligibility of the applicants of the licensure NCE is used by a number of states. North Carolina also uses the NCE to gauge the eligibility of the applicants (Nicholas, 2000). Besides National Board of Certified Counselors the second source for guidance is Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

North Carolina Licensure in Counseling Credentialing offers three types of licensing. These three types of licensing are as follows:

Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA)

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPCS)
