Stephen Crane's A Red Badge of Courage

When someone invents something new to say and a new way to say that someone called is the original. Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage is a work so rare that people have and will continue to read it for future generations. This is a separate work heralded a new era in American literature. It is important to understand the background, Stephen Crane and the current events of his time. Theses elements contributed to the creation of the first modern history of the war in America.

To understand the genius of the work, you must understand the author. Stephen Crane was the youngest of 14 children born in a very religious family, whose father was a Methodist minister. Part of his interest in writing was developed because of their parents, wrote articles for the church, as well as his brothers, two of whom were journalists. Crane never witnessed the war in his life before he wrote "Red Badge of Courage, but he was a fan of the popular history of the war Leo Tolstoy, and other memories of Civil War veterans. (Napierkowski 253) Crane was a man who was obsessed with the acts of courage and overwhelming place for people to do acts of bravery on the battlefield. The whole life of Crane shows his admiration for the courage and Henry Felming, certainly has its (Breslin 270). Courage is not the only factor, the hero, but this is one of many represented on the battlefield.

Place the battle taking place in "Red Badge of Courage is based on the battle that took place during the civil war in a place called Chancellorsville. Crane chose this place because he knew a lot about her, and she was artistic ideal (Hungerford 156). According to Thomas Beer, much of this knowledge came from his brother, who was an expert on strategy at Gettysburg and Chancellorsville. Krein could possibly have heard retired soldiers talk about their first experiences in hand.

Many middle-aged men in Port Jervis served in the 124th New York; Chancellorsville was their first fight and first impressions can be very bright. This is ironic because Henry was running when he should have, but at the same time, he was a violation of the laws or customs of war.
