Strategies Applied in Persuasive Speech on Organ Donation

The overall strategy

While preparing for the persuasive speech for organ transplant, I started with the thorough study of the topic; about organ transplant, types of organ donations, importance of organ donation, complications faced by the people, hesitation formed due to some religious taboos. I also studied the impact on the donor or their family members or relatives, the potential organ donors, and fact and figures about the organ donation and people who need organ donations or who died for not receiving the organ donation. After I had gathered the material and related facts and figures, I compiled them accordingly and then prepared a persuasive speech for the topic. I prepared the points of the speech according to the mind set of my target audience. I also took the help of some authentic references and data which I had gathered from my research, and highlighted those points during my speech as and where needed. In order to persuade the audience and make them aware about the importance of organ donation, I also mentioned the fact, "a new patient is listed in every 13 minutes in United States database of the people who need organ donation, and one person dies in every 16 minutes due to wait for finding an organ donor." (Richie, pp. n.d)

Primary and Secondary purpose

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of my persuasive presentation for organ donation was to create awareness among the people about the importance of organ donation, and eventually to convince them to donate their organs and tissues in order to help the mankind after your death. There are two kinds of human beings. Some are those who wish to donate organ but due to some factors unable to do so. The second are those who do not wish to donate at all. Some people wish to do some good for mankind by donating their organs but are resistant due to their social and religious taboos. The others were simply not interested in donating their organs, so I made the presentation keeping in view of these two groups and how to persuade this audience to donate their organs.

Secondary Purpose

The secondary purpose of my persuasive speech includes:

The need of organ donor

It was very essential part for my speech to indicate when and how the need arises for the organ donation. Because then my audience could not be able to understand how many people are dying each day in US because of the wait for the organ donors. I also mentioned that this might also happen to you as well or your relatives, where you might find yourselves on the receiving end, so it will also hurt you at that point when you will be unable to find the donor for saving your life. These lines were necessary in the context of speech in order to convince the audience for organ donation.

Who and how one can donate organs

It was also necessary to mention in the speech that ...
