Introduction

This project is never introduced in any Smartphone platforms. However, there are some similar projects that deal with audio signals in the real time. In addition, most of these projects are more of recoding and applying a limited range of post recording filtration operations. A similar application for my project would be VoiceBand (WaveMachine Labs, 2011) for an Iphone which allows a user for an iphone to input a voice, then the application will process voice data and apply some modification to sound signal in real time, it also converts a Human voice to instrumental audio signal and output it in real time. Another, application would be Voice Changer for IOS and Android Devices, which also, converts a Human voice Signal to instrumental and output it in real time, and many others that actually do similar jobs sharing the same objective.

What makes my project unique is that a Smartphone will take an input of audio signal from the built-in Microphone and process the input data bit by bit, allowing the Smartphone processor to work on the streaming mode. Also, the application will be applying modifications and effects to audio bit chunks with a sampling rate of 1/40 of a second and pushing the data to the output in real time.

The connection between this project and hip-hop music industry is that, it allows a hip-hop artist to sing through a Smartphone. The Smartphone will then analyze data in real time and apply some specific signal modification process usually done to hip-hop vocals by producers and sound engineers. An example of these signal modifications would be Signal Compression, EQ, Echo, Delay, Signal shifting, chorus, AutoTune and many others.

The project will require an IOS device such as Iphone, ipod and Ipad in order to test and successfully run the application. Also, since the Application will directly link to IOS devices, most of the programming will take place in XCode which is the primarily programming language for IOS devices. In order for developers to develop IOS application Apple charges $120 to have access to Xcode.

The project will involve the logic of taking a row signal from an IOS device and decide wither the signal taken from the mic is valid to process or not, in case of error, then the application will terminate in this early stage of the program. If signal is valid then it proceeds to the first stage of filtration process which I would call as the base modification process, that is, the all valid signals should go through this stage first. Next, FMOD the smart audio engine will generate a smart choice on how to choose what random effect it will apply on the signal based on the frequency and amplitude of that frequency.
