Introduction

One of the few things children would look forward to during their summer vacation is attending a summer camp. There are many themes and ideas for summer camps that children would look forward to. A summer camp is a place where children from different family backgrounds meet together. This is the place where children learn the process of give and take, and at the same time have fun. Camping is one of the most popular forms of outdoor recreation and can range from "roughing it in the wilderness" with only a tent and limited cooking utensils to utilizing more modern accommodations like campers and mobile homes. Other outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, are often connected with camping trips. Since many of the summer camp activities are team games, children understand the basics of teamwork. The camp coordinator would have to plan out the activities depending on the age group of the children and also on the basis of facilities available in the camp. The summer camp coordinator has to have a detailed day-to-day plan regarding the various summer camp activities. The children theses days never look forward to simple and ordinary games. Here are a few summer camp activities for children and can match all age groups as well.

Summer camps provide an enthusiastic atmosphere to develop self confidence and self esteem. Campers enjoy socialization with other members in the team and forge new friendships. Summer camp activities include adventurous and creative sessions. Normally, summer camps are of one to two weeks duration. Overnight camps provide accommodations and food in a homely manner. Summer camp activities incorporate kids, girls, boys, teens and even families(Kelman, 2000). Summer camp activities are performed under the guidance of skilled instructors. Outdoor trips are conducted to explore nature. Other outdoor adventures such as mountain hiking, low ropes and rock climbing challenge the endurance of campers. In horseback riding, campers get to select their horses. Courts and other facilities for coaching in land sports are provided. Campers enjoy basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, archery, fencing, frisbee and golf. Waterfront activities in a summer camp are swimming, sailing, waterskiing, kayaking, windsurfing, canoeing, rowing, fishing and snorkeling. White water paddling for kids and newcomers offer a fresh river experience. Cycling and green walking trials enhance summer camp activities to a great extent.

Craft programs include pottery, sculpture and glazing, painting, collage, beadwork, calligraphy, model making, ceramics designing, sketching and mask making.
