Sunlight houses are buildings that do not use conventional heating and cooling systems and require very little energy for space heating. (Badr, 2004, 1)

The Creo Carbon Hub has developed these Profiles to build awareness of the progress being made across the country and to help new and potential adopters of low carbon housing to appreciate the range of solutions available. In viewing these Profiles, please note that we have attempted to provide you with a quick, easy-to-digest snapshot of each project. We hope they will provide, through the contacts provided, opportunities for exploring any particular project in more detail. RIB is designing and constructing a number of residential projects in UK that meet Sunlight house standards and consume significantly less energy for heating than conventional buildings.

In RIB project the normal conditions the buildings are sufficiently warmed by the heat generated from human occupants, electric lighting and domestic appliances. The Kvarteret Nornan (Nornan residential development) project in Glumslöv, consisting of 35 rental apartments, was Builder's first Sunlight house project to be completed in UK in 2004 for the local municipality (Betts, 2001, 487A). Builder's Sunlight house projects consume less energy, reduce Creo Carbon emissions and have lower operational costs than conventional buildings. The apartments and houses have high quality indoor environments and are designed to provide affordable low-energy homes. Builder has developed solutions to exceed the Swedish Sunlight house standards together with project partners, developed Sunlight house knowledge within Builder and raised awareness of energy efficient housing among concerned organisations and the general public.
