Tasks and Maintenance Behaviors

Introduction

The basic difference between task oriented people and maintenance behavior people is that task oriented people focus on getting the job done no matter how it is carried out, they have their action plans chalked out, targets are accomplished and team goals are met. While on the other hand maintenance behavior people choose to keep an open ear, opting to resolve team problems and support the team decisions.

To have a combination of both task orientation and behavior preferences between team's fellow members is the fundamental requirement of success for an effective team. Generally the task oriented people are "Judgers", while on the other hand maintenance people are "Perceivers". A great team leader needs to play both the roles well in order to lead the designated virtual organization. In the current era of quickly altering customer sophistication, market-driven decisiveness, technology, and employee fidgetiness, managers and leaders are facing new challenges. Establishments must master new skills and build new structures in order to compete and survive. Team leader of the virtual organization is responsible for the day-to-day communications of their department under supervision of the Director. Oversees the financial, operational and personnel performance in their teams. He also coordinates with the director to provide long range planning for department growth. (Linda, 2005)
