Introduction

This paper intends to explore the elements that need consideration in team organization. The main focus of this paper is to conduct an interview from a Team Leader who is responsible to supervise his team members. The purpose of this interview is to examine various factors that holds great significance in contributing to the performance, such as size of the team, team conflicts and their resolutions, time required to complete a task in a team, resistors in managing a team, efficiency of team, challenges at leadership level and group behavior to counter those challenges. In addition to this, this paper also discusses that how a leader shall manage a change process in an organization.

Thesis Statement

An efficient and effective team work is led by a strong leadership, which consequently results in a successful organization. A powerful leader has the capability to manage all sorts of conflicts with the team and change in the management.

Discussion

A short interview session was conducted with a team leader working at a renown corporation in the city. Below mentioned are the questions that were asked with the answers that were;

How do you determine the size of the team?

The size of the team depends on the nature of work that is being carried out. The manageable size of team is 6-8 people. The size should be what leader feels comfortable in managing with, since he is the one who has to control and supervise the team task within the given time frame.

What types of team conflict occur? How do you resolve conflict?

When there are bunch of people working in a team, conflicts are inevitable. Since team members are of diverse nature, they are bound to have different view points on the subject matter. The chances of conflicts increases when there are one or more team members with an aggressive or stubborn nature. Such people have low tolerance level and want only their ideas to be implemented and to be followed. However, this is not how a team performs. There needs to be a collaborative effort and must make a decision by healthy group discussion. Conflicts are not necessarily harmful to the teams; in fact this shows the high degree of functioning team members with big ideas. These conflicts can be made constructive and healthy for the team if managed the right way.

The key factor in resolving the conflict is to appreciate and understand the view points of all team members. I follow a three stage process to resolve the conflicts with the team.

First stage: Prepare for Resolution

Second stage: Understand the Situation

Third stage: Reach Agreement

Does it take longer to complete tasks in a team environment?

I believe if the coordination between the team members is upright then it takes way less time to complete the task in a team environment.
