Introduction

Leadership is the capacity or ability of a person to influence, induce, encourage or motivate others to carry out certain objectives, enthusiastically and willingly. In the case of a business, leadership is often applied to a person belonging to a specific hierarchical level to another in a lower hierarchical level, for example, the owner of the business to its employees, or a supervisor or manager to his subordinates. In this paper, we have to evaluate the leadership styles while considering the project of Denver International Airport. The project did not complete on time and delayed which cost them extra money and loss. Therefore, we have to identify what leadership styles would be best for the project to be successful and accomplished on time. Following are the main types or styles of leadership that can be taken, and then some recommendations on which one to use.

Leadership styles

Following are the leadership styles defined:

Authoritarian leadership

It is the style of management, based on the formal authority of the head. Characterized by a desire to rely on the head hard orders and do not allow any objections or their own opinions of subordinates. Authoritarian style of management can be effective in emergency situations or in low labor discipline (Weber, 2005). The authoritarian style of leadership is dangerous escalation in the command-administrative management, as a rule, leading to various forms of abuse of power.

Characteristics of leaders who apply this style:

They have very high goals

Focus on profit and cost

Highly oriented performance

They are hard on themselves

More confident in their abilities to those of their colleagues

Declare their own opinion

Greatly influence the achievement of objectives

Little influence the satisfaction of interpersonal needs

Democratic Leadership

In this kind of leadership, the leader seek to be a member of the group or team, decisions are usually made between workers, but under the supervision, guidance and consent of the leader. The democratic leader is characterized by listening to members of their group, be friendly, accessible, help workers with personal problems, showing consideration and concern for others, promoting the participation of all and be permissive. The head of the democratic style has always the sense of the group on important manufacturing issues, takes a collective decision. Regular and timely information to members of the group held on important issues for them. Communication with employees is in the form of requests, suggestions, recommendations, advice, incentives for quality and efficient work, kindly and politely, to be adopted as orders (Berson, 2003). Leader encourages a favorable psychological climate in the team, defends the interests of employees.

Characteristics of leaders who apply this style:

Depending on specific situations react according interpersonal needs, cooperation, motivation, performance, respectively, thought to win - cost.

Involve their employees in the process of solving problems related to personal facts.

They have a clear idea about what they want

Great respect for the priorities
