A Whitianga teenager, allegedly in midst of the cyber crime network causing millions of dollars in damage, admitted six computer crime charges when he appeared in Thames District Court today. Owen Thor Walker, 18, who has Asperger syndrome, has accused FBI of being "Akill '- leading the group of international programmers that set up the botnet that infected the million computers with the virus and resulted in the estimated $ NZ26 million-plus of economic loss. Botnet is the network of hacked computers that can be controlled by the single computer via Internet. Although some of charges Walker was convicted today carry the maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, Judge Arthur Tompkins indicated he was not considering jailing Walker. (Easttom 2010)
