Past Viewpoint of Terrorism

The fact of terrorism is not new. It has existed since the beginning of the human civilization. There is no proper definition of the term but its dimensions are diverse and complex. There is a host of factors influencing the belief of terrorism. They are all inter, thus we cannot decide why people eventually engage in terrorist. Terrorism can be loosely defined as the use of illegal and unfair means to powerfully implement the principles at will.

Most of the historians hold the point of view that terrorism is essentially a political phenomenon. The ongoing killing in the Middle East and Kashmir testify to the political nature of terrorism (Marrin, 2003).

The most important feature of the religious terrorism is a distinct social dimension. All the religious and radical movements and organizations advocate for social justice, for social equality. Thus, they create appeal among religious illiterates and unemployed populations.

Motivation behind the Terrorism

Creation of violence and fear is the main aim of terrorism. Various opportunistic tools help worldwide terrorist organizations and criminals in goal seeking.

Individual terrorist involve themselves in violent activities, irrespective of being part for any political assignment. Renowned examples of individual terrorist in this concern are Timothy McVeigh and Lee Harvey Oswald.

Another classification of terrorist can be made in terms of their ideology to achieve their political agenda. Such terrorists involve in terrorism due to their excessive involvement in oppressive conditions. They opt for alternate ways to, classified as extreme options, to convey a change in their lives (Raphaeli, 2003). Majority of such terrorist groups have been found in the regions of Bosnia and Georgia. Their clash exist in terms of ethnic factors, most common since after Soviet amalgamation disbanded.

Terrorism is unavoidable because of the country's unparalleled upward economic and social mobility which provides opportunities for social and economic advancement.

The terrorist organization, such as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and other similar organizations may seek funds from many legal sources, such as personal donations and profits from companies or charities that criminal sources, such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling and other products, fraud, kidnapping or extortion (Chaliland, 2007).

Terrorists use methods similar to those used for laundering money to avoid attracting the attention of the authorities and to protect the identity of their sponsors and ultimately the beneficiaries of funds raised. However, money laundering and financial transactions related to terrorist financing are composed of small amounts. Therefore, when terrorists raise funds from legitimate sources, it is more difficult to detect and track these funds.
