Background

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a significant psychological disorder that is faced not only by the America military, but also by the civilians. The American military faces it due to its participation in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, while the civilians face it on account of a wide variety of reasons. It is generally characterized as a result of diseases and injuries sustained in violent combat or hostile actions. The most significant reasons are the blast wounds, gunshots sustained and other injuries sustained due to violent combat which result in psychiatric consequences. For the civilians, they are natural disasters, accident, shock, rape or other violent incidents such as witnessing deaths or bomb blasts. Around ten percent of the civilian populations in America are faced with this problem. This is not a minor problem as an estimated 13 to 20 percent of U.S. armed forces who have been to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan face this problem. These soldiers on return to their country face this problem which is reflected in their personal lives. They continue to face problems such as nightmares, sleep problems, anger and other health related issues on account of their experience. Incidents which trigger these past memories cause anxiety, fear and anger, and are the cause of PTSD.
