"We the People", this phrase has a different meaning today than it did two hundred years ago when our forefathers wrote this phrase At that time in history, "We the People" did not include most of the American society. The writers were not including any women, children, or any black people.

The next main phrase in the preamble is "in Order to form a more perfect Union." Our forefathers, also known as framers, wanted to form a better place to live than the dictatorship of England. The American people had just won a war in which they wanted freedom.

The next phase in the 52-word preamble is "insure domestic Tranquility." When the preamble was written there was not such thing as a gang or weed, which disturbs the community. It was very peaceful with not to many outbreaks or violent riots. If there were to be a disturbance there was the volunteer militia to break things up.

Amending the Constitution to meet the needs and demands of "the people" helped the Constitution endure. After the municipal conflict, three amendments were added. The Thirteenth Amendment, in 1865, abolished slavery and involuntary servitude; in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified with the purpose of protecting any person within a state's jurisdiction from being deprived . The Nineteenth Amendment in 1920 accorded women the right to vote nearly one hundred thirty years after the Bill of Rights. In 1967, following the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, the Twenty-fifth Amendment was added detailing the shift of officers in the government should a President be removed from office, die or resign.
