Introduction

This is the world where all people available, good and bad both. In particular we are taking about the person who committed a crime or illegal activities. He or she has to pass the trial of court and consequently found guilty or vice versa. If, found guilty as per the court of law, after that he or she will be sent to prison or jail. The placement of the offender is mainly depending upon the degree of crime "he, or she" committed. Although there is a certain difference between prisons and jails, but both the places are serve to keep safe the society from such offenders. This is not necessary for all criminals to send them to jail. They may need to send to prisons for his sentence. This paper is discussing the differences between jails and prisons.

Jail can be defined as “a correctional institution which used to detain persons who are in the lawful custody of the government (either accused persons awaiting trial or convicted persons serving a sentence).” (TFD, 2011) Those people who sent to jails may not sentence for long. For jails, they may not be remain for two or less than two years. The things which are more concerned for jails, are offering the full service facilities including offender programs, offer security, medical care and food services (Seiter, 2011). Moreover, the local government operated the jails. In United States, there are almost 36,000 jails available to punish the criminals.
