CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction

The elderly are an important part of society and should be given the importance that they tend to deserve. However, they are a group, sometimes unrecognized. On several occasions elderly are alone after their spouse's death because they are turned away by the children. They think that the parents are a burden and too difficult to carry or just frantic life and material values ??that we live does not give us a direct benefit and may slow down our forward motion life. In some societies that are less evolved, the elderly are revered and treated with respect while ours are often neglected or simply not heard. Moreover, a risk oriented group should have different agencies and institutions and individuals belonging to them, listen and understand their needs. The elderly age people live differently from others because of their tastes, interests, needs, feelings, and the view towards world view is dissimilar than young people (Pattee, 1995).

However, there is also a notion that on several occasions older people behave like children and require constant attention and care. Today, unfortunately statistics, tells us that older people feel miserable and lonely, and it's not because they have no relatives or close friends have forgotten them, but the modern pace of life makes people spend less time communicating with their loved ones. However, the pursuit of happiness in the sense of wealth also speaks volumes. Therefore, to visit their elderly parents do not always work often, even if they tell us that all of them well, we all know that, in fact, they want to be closer to us.

Older people today are accustomed to serving themselves, not to be a burden on the shoulders of their children. However, on few occasions they find it very hard to get out of bed in the morning, cook their own meals, do laundry and cleaning, and if they run a household than they require much more help. Sometimes they cannot cope with such a pile of household chores. Modern families to care for the elderly hire qualified care giver that will not only help in domestic affairs, but also to give the most precious to them which is the communication. Thus, they are most of the time place in the long term care unit where they have great impact over their psychosocial, financial, and emotional balance (Pattee, 1995).

Today, there is a need of caregivers for elderly people, thus, one can simply use the services of the selection of house staff, which in short period can help. However, for the long term care one will find a suitable candidate of their choice with a proper certification. After seeing the conditions of elders who went through long term care one must be merciful to their loved ones and closer to elderly parents, they need full care and proper care.
