CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Research

Change simply means modifying something or altering it. These changes can either be natural or planned. The economic crises has forced managers to plan and act as change agents and make the alterations that are not widely appreciated by employees. However that's the role that HR had to play in this economic crises.

Economic crisis that has recently hit the international business hub and the global financial community continues to sabotage the kind of problems and situations that have been changed the course of previous trends and patterns of conducting business around the world. While much has been done to recover the damages, the economic crisis of 2007-2008 will always be a lesson for all business leaders and financial managers for all times to come.

Companies and organizations have been devastated and substantially drained out of their own financial and personnel equity under such circumstances, which directly influences and impacts the course of company business and operations that have paved way for us. However, much needs to be done and analyzed which would help businesses to recover from the shock of economic meltdown.

Problem Statement

The problem statement that has paved for developing this research is 'How has the economic crisis impacted and effected change processes in the organization?'

Research Aim

The aim of this research is to find out how a financial crisis has affected organization with regards to the change. These changes due to economic and financial crisis have put a lot of burden on HR manager's shoulders. They now have to bring in the changes which are not pleasant. These changes include firing, downsizing, pay cuttings, and several other unpleasant steps. This research will focus on finding out how organizations have kept up with change during this crises and what sort of role HR managers in those organizations have played to implement it smoothly.

Research Objectives

For the purpose of realization and understanding of the research aim at length, the following objectives have been identified:

Find out the major changes that have been made in organizations during the economic crisis;

Find out the impact of these changes on employees;

Find out the role that HR managers have played during the process of these changes; and

Find out the role of HR managers in aftermaths of these changes.

With the research objectives identified, the following research questions have been identified, which would aid the development and compilation of the research study:
