Greatest dancer of her time, Anna Pavlova (1881-1931) was born in humble circumstances in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1899 he became the member of Imperial Ballet, where his rare gifts quickly attracted attention. Blessed with ethereal lightness, she excelled in lyrical roles Nikiya in La Bayadère and title role of Giselle. He was also unusually expressive, one aspect of his personality that Michel Fokine exploited in Dying Swan, which became his most famous solo.
