The Gift of the Magi

Q1) Characterized Della and Jim As couple. Talk about both their life position and how as a twosome they reply to it. Use quotations from text to support your answer.

Answer

Delia and Jim Young, the major individual characteristics in "The Gift of the Magi,'' is a young wed twosome with very little money. Jim has endured a thirty-percent yield slash, and the two should scrimp for everything. On the day before Christmas, Delia enumerations the cash she has painstakingly kept for months. She is dismayed to find she has less than two dollars, barely sufficient to purchase any thing at all. Delia's husband, Jim, is a slim, grave young man, twenty-two years old. O. Henry tells the reader what Jim is like, and furthermore shows Delia's sentiments for him.

As the story undoes, she is counting the cash that she has kept to purchase her husband his Christmas present, and she is decreased to tears when she recognizes how little she has. Delia and Jim are poor; she has only organized to scrape simultaneously $1.87, regardless of keeping mindfully for months. But O. Henry makes Delia's joyfulness in her love for Jim quite clear: "Many a joyous hour she had expended designing for certain thing pleasant for him.

Something is fine and uncommon and sterling certain thing just a little bit beside to being worthy of the respect of being belongs to by Jim." Jim's most valued possession is the gold watch that has been presented down to him from his grandfather and his father. Technically, the story appears to be third individual restricted omniscient. It's notified in the third-person, and only pursues Della. We don't glimpse what Jim is managing throughout the story, and one time he does display up, he continues shut to us: we don't understand what his answer to Della's hair is any more than Della does.
