Introduction

Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco, California; in 1916.Jackson consequently grew up with a weak sense of identity and low self-esteem. She started writing from her teenage and focused seriously on her work in high school and college. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1940, where she studied and started her own literary journal with her classmate Stanley Edgar Hyman. Jackson died of a heart attack while sleeping, in 1965 when she was only fort-eight.
