Introduction

“The Money Changers” by Upton Sinclair was published in 1908, soon after the jolts of 1907, author, however, received most applause for his book 'The Jungle'. This book of his by no means had a lesser impact than of the jungle; this book is still relevant even after the one hundred years. The Financial crises that the world witness in 2008 reminded the world of Upton Sinclair and his book “The Money Changers”. This book held a number of similarities as witnessed by the whole world in the recent jolts of 2008 relating to Wall Street and financial sector in general. Upton Sinclair wrote numerous books belonging to different genres, and because of his talent to bring the issues relating to public to the limelight, he was once considered for the post of governor. This Book by Upton Sinclair exposes the players of the stock market arena and the dirty game which tends to be played on that ground. On that ground, the personal profit is the only factor which is considered thus avoiding the others, irrespective of its nature. This Book depicts that the financial crisis of 1907 was, in fact, the gift of some of the powerful individuals who tend to control the market and tend to base their business by destroying their opponents financially (Rothbard, p.124. In this book, Upton Sinclair criticizes the role of the government along with the banks and industries. In his view that all tend to operate in order to maximize the profit and hardly any of the institutions work for the betterment of the public.
