The Role of Inflammation in Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is a most frequent form of dementia in which the person lost his or her control on thought, memory retention and language control. The advancement in age is considered as a primary risk factor for Alzheimer disease. It causes brain disorders to a person and badly affects the ability of a person to carry out routine activities. The parts of the brain that control the thinking and reasoning activities are the origin of Alzheimer disease. The number of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease is increasing with the passage of time (Lombardo, 2012).

The major dilemma associated with the disease of Alzheimer is that the main cause of this disease is not known. This creates several issues for the medical practitioners and the people associated with the medical field. There are several researches on the identification of the cause of Alzheimer disease (Grammas, 2011). It has been found that genetic factors play an important role in causing Alzheimer disease in elderly people. However, the actual linkage between the Alzheimer disease and genes has not been fully confirmed by scientists and researchers. Some of the factors identified by several researchers and scientists related to the cause of Alzheimer disease include lower level of education, implication of prior traumatic head damage and female gender. Studies have identified that the female gender is more vulnerable to the risk of Alzheimer disease than their male counterparts (Grammas, 2011).

Some evidences have been found regarding the cause of Alzheimer's that are related to poor health conditions in elderly people. Stroke and heart diseases including high blood pressure, higher level of cholesterol in the blood and lower levels of vitamin folate is responsible for increasing the risks of Alzheimer disease in several people. These factors contribute to the promotion and beginning of Alzheimer disease in several people, but they are not considered as definite evidences for the cause of Alzheimer disease. The physical, social and mental activities are found be closely associated with the Alzheimer disease in elderly people. The causes of Alzheimer disease are unidentified, and researches are being conducted on this subject matter (Gurbani, 2008).

The scientists have found that the inflammation in the neurological system of a person is a factor that widely contributes to the severity of Alzheimer disease in several people. The inflammation in the brain of a person affects the neuron cells of the patient, and it triggers Alzheimer disease to progress and develop within the person (Town, 2010). This paper discusses the particular role of inflammation in promoting and progressing Alzheimer disease in people. An extensive review of literature is provided in the paper that analyzes the issue of Alzheimer disease and its linkage with the inflammation. A detailed review of the current literature available in the medical and health care industry is being analyzed. A brief discussion of future research implications is given along with the identification of research areas that are ...
