Introduction

The research paper focus on the character of Wade Whitehouse played in the movie Affliction. As the name of movie suggest, the movie is based on the lifelong affliction of the main character, Wade. After the discussion of the Wade's role, the character will be analyzed in the framework of two theories.

Character Discussion

Wade Whitehouse plays a role of police man in the city of New Hampshire. Wade meets his daughter, on a Halloween night; Jill was born from his divorced wife. Wade had not reached on time and the evening turns into discord. Jill then calls her mother to pick her. Her divorced wife and her boyfriend take away Jill, and Wade vows to get the assistance of law for her daughter's custody (Roger, 1999).

On the following morning, Wade is rushing to a crime scene. Jack, a hunting guide, tells that the person accidently shot himself; however, Wade gets suspicious about his claims.

Wade along with her girlfriend visit Wade's father, Glen Whitehouse. Wade has been treated badly by his father and the childhood incidents are shown in flashbacks. At arrival, Wade founds her mother dead due to illness. Glen does not any anxiety and gets drunk during her funeral, resulting in a conflict between father and son.

On the other hand, Wade has become more convince of the murder, irrespective of Rolfe's presumption. Wade is also fired from his job because he harasses Jack and unprofessional attitude. He then picks her daughter from her ex-wife's house; he has little confrontation with her. He also attacks a bartender in front of Jill. He arrives at his house and finds that her girlfriend is leaving. In a confrontation with his girlfriend, he pushes away Jill. Afterwards, both Margie and Jill drive away.
