There is no single, proven cause for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Research indicates that Obsessive Compulsive Disorder involves problems in communication between the front part of the brain and deeper structures. Serotonin is what these brain structures use. It is a theory that insufficient levels of serotonin are prominently involved in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Drugs that increase the brain concentration of serotonin often helps improve Obsessive Compulsive Disorder symptoms. It is estimated that 100,000 Americans have full-blown TS, and that perhaps as many as 1 in 200 show a partial expression of the disorder.
