Tintern Abbey

The full name of this verse is “Lines Composed a Few Miles overhead Tintern Abbey, on Revisiting the Banks of the Wye throughout a Tour. July 13, 1798.” It undoes with the speaker's affirmation that five years have passed since he last travelled to this position, came across its calm, rustic view, and learned the murmuring waters of the river. He recites the things he sees afresh, and recounts their result upon him: the “steep and lofty cliffs” influence upon him “thoughts of more deep seclusion”; he leans contrary to the dark sycamore tree and examines at the cottage-grounds and the orchard trees, whose crop is still unripe. (Wordsworth 899).

He sees the “wreaths of smoke” increasing up from cabin chimneys between the trees, and envisages that they might increase from “vagrant dwellers in the houseless woods,” or from the cave of a hermit in the deep forest.

The recollection of the woods and cabins suggested “tranquil restoration” (Wordsworth 897)to his brain, and even influenced him when he was not cognizant of the recollection, leveraging his exploits of consideration and love.
