Introduction

Advancement in Technology has become the slogan of the modern world. One of the miracles of this technology is the mobile phone, also called cell phones. Primarily it refers to a wireless electronic device used for two way communication. Its applications extend beyond basic communications, ranging from productivity to leisure. Cellular phones were first seen in 1973 when Martin Cooper of Motorola launched a handset weighing 2 kilogram.

Touch screen technology may be defined as a display screen that is sensitive to the touch of a human finger or stylus. This technology became extremely popular on mobile phones after Apple launched the I-Phone in 2007. It is very much intuitive and smart as it permits its users to browse the system by touching links or icons.

History of Touch Screen

Touch screen technology materialized as a result of corporate and academic research labs in 1960s. The era of 1970s saw the first acquisition of touch screen patents. Since then, numerous implementation approaches have seen application. It gained visibility in the project of a computer-assisted learning terminal in 1972. It was its first appearance as a component of the PLATO project. After some time, kiosk and sale systems in banks and stores started using this screen widely. The first touch screen computer, HP-150, touched the market in 1983. Advancement in the touch screen technologies led to the commercialization of tablet Personal Computers, Personal Digital Assistants and touch-screen phones. Cellular phones and handhelds with touch screen technology appeared in nineties (Firestone, 2009, p.22).

Advantages of Touch Screen Mobile Phones

This high-tech feature of cellular phones has rendered many benefits for individuals. This paper analyzes some of the benefits in detail.

Easy Navigation

It facilitates and makes the navigation easier as compare to the normal keypad. The simple user interface is also very intuitive and sensitive to the touch.

Speed

Since a person can explore the functions with a single touch, therefore, the speed of work enhances. The user can manipulate the system applications in a smaller span of time. Speed also increases as the users do can write instead of typing.

Decent Size Screen

Another advantage is the wide size of the screen that fits well with the latest multimedia functions. The users can have access to different multimedia functions very conveniently. Moreover, larger screens make the navigation, net surfing and watching movies very comfortable.

Comfort

Touch screens are user friendly. For instance, arthritis patients can use it and feel less pain as against hard and rigid keys. It also helps people with poor eyesight as images and icons are more easily discerned than text.
