Tourism destination

Introduction

The main purpose of this research report is to examine the tourist destination of the world and to determine the cultural, physical and social features of different destinations. Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes (ASOC, 2007). The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited".

Emerging Tourism Worldwide Destinations

(a) Emerging tourism destinations can offer investors the opportunity to buy in on the ground floor.

China

Tourism Ireland, the organisation responsible for marketing the island of Ireland overseas is aiming to grow the number of Chinese visitors to Ireland to 50,000 over the next four years. The Chinese tourism market has excellent medium term potential for Ireland according to Tourism Ireland's Chief Executive, Paul O'Toole who is currently travelling on Ireland's major trade mission to China led by An Taoiseach this week(Bastmeijer, 2003). During the visit, Mr Ahern will address 160 top travel and tourism industry contacts from across China at events in Beijing and Shanghai, organised by Tourism Ireland, as well as announcing the appointment of Tourism Ireland's new representative in China.

SriLanka

For a small island, Sri Lanka has many nicknames: Serendib, Ceylon, Teardrop of India, Resplendent Isle, Island of Dharma, Pearl of the Orient. This colourful collection reveals its richness and beauty, and the intensity of the affection it evokes in its visitors. The beach thing may be a cliche, but don't miss them. Then head to the hills to cool off amidst tea plantations and ancient cities. The island teems with bird life, and even the occasional elephant or leopard(Boyd, 1996). To top it all off, the people are friendly, the food is delicious and costs are low.
