Transcription Termination

Why did the scientists perform the study (i.e. description of background)?

Scientists performed this study in order to know whether termination of transcription maintains chromosomal integrity or not. This study was carried out on the basis of certain findings which included that DNA replication forks translocate twenty to thirty times quicker than the pace of RNA polymerase (RNAP) elongation. This observation increases the likelihood of frequent impacts between replication forks and transcription elongation complexes (TEC) in such a situation when production of Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and Ribonucleic acid (RNA) are co-directional.
