Introduction

Leadership skills are not most learned in a classroom or workplace. It is possible to acquire leadership skills from personalities already having traits of leading people in instinctive behavior. Transformational leadership involves the motivation of employees and members to perform normal expectations for meeting the organisation's mission and for achieving organisational goals. It inspires staff and members to put aside personal self-interest for the common good of the organisation and to have confidence in their ability to achieve the “extraordinary” challenges before them. The transformational leader is a person who may have a real impact on the behavior of employees.

The two leaders who run the company are Herb Kelleher and Garry C. Kelly. Both the leaders are born leaders and they have made the company successful by implementing the strategies that have worked well for the company. The leadership styles that have been adopted by Herb Kelleher is charismatic and transformational leadership style and servant leadership. It is believed by him that employees should be kept motivated because they play a major role in keeping customers happy and if they are de-motivated, the customers will not be happy. Similarly, Garry C. Kelly has adopted behavioral theory of leadership and was a visionary and a democratic leader. He also believed in employee motivation as well as development since it greatly helps in making the company successful (Chamberlin, 2009).

Roles of Transformational Leader

Transformational leaders play significant roles for achieving the objectives of an organisation. For achieving the objectives transformational leader guides the subordinated that play an active role together with the leader that is to focus on the conduct and behavior of others, on the environmental factors and their mediating judgments.
