Introduction

From the years 1932 till 1972 an experiment by the name of Public Health Service Syphilis Study, Tuskegee Syphilis Study or simply the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment was conducted. It was conducted in the county of Alabama in Tuskegee by the U.S. Public Health Service in order to observe the natural development of syphilis when left untreated (Heller, 1972). The study was performed exclusively on black people under the false pretence of providing them with free health, courtesy of the Government of the United States.
