Ubiquitous Environment: Smart Travel

Introduction

Smart Travel is the term that is being employed to represent the use of technology in travel system to make travelling more easy, efficient and convenient for the people. It has been observed by (Brown and Stevens, 2007) that various mode of travelling (i.e. plane, train, ship and automobile) are being used by the people to travel. However, the numbers of accidents are increasing day by day as there is no such defined system which can help traveler to assess various conditions that aid in understanding the symptoms which are the cause of accidents. On the other hand another in travelling there is another problem which is emerging due to increase in urbanization. The infrastructures of cities have now become more complex, which often cause problems to find the desired locations for the travelers. The system of routes is also requiring to be updated so that it would become convenient for people to reach to their desired location without being lost.

The above mentioned problems are associated with the situation when a person starts to travel for somewhere, however, there is also another factor travelling covers, which is planning to travel somewhere. In this connection, a system is also required for planning the travel where a person wants to go, how much it cost, how he can book the ticket, what is the status of his reservation and what is the status of flight or cruise. On the other hand, a person might want to keep himself updated about his location on some foreign locations.

There are so many problems associated with the current travelling system which demands a ubiquitous system for smart traveling, but all of these issues cannot be addressed in one single study nor one single system can be implemented for smart travelling as travelling is a very broad term and covers travelling by plane, train, vehicles, ships and others. Thus, this study would identify what are the resources that are required for planning and execution of travelling for creating ubiquitous environment to make travel “smart travel.” As the other two problems has already been addressed by many researches (see also O'Hare and Lowen, 2002; Collier, O'Hare, Lowen and Rooney, 2003; Global Sources, 2009).

Ubiquitous Environment

The term “ubiquitous” refers to anything that is existing or omnipresent. This includes everything that has the capacity of being everywhere simultaneously. However, the word ubiquitous system refers to any technology, device or system which has the capability of being omnipresent. Ubiquitous devices include but not limited to mobile phones, wireless devices or anything which is connected to a widespread network i.e. internet. Ubiquitous devices also cover any product which has better stability and intelligence to the working environment with the aid of security.
