Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to develop the school trip to Liverpool and Machester and find the housing problems associated with these areas. The paper discusses the ways through which the Housing associations and the councils are working to bring back the run down cities to live, with the community's involvement and the involvement of Government. My school has organized a trip to Liverpool and Manchester to look at the problems which these cities are facing. The main observed problem which these two cities are facing is the housing problem. Its purpose is to achieve a better understanding of the phenomenon, particularly in relation to potential impacts on more vulnerable households. The research relies on three main approaches before considering policy implications. First, the general issue of housing market volatility is explored in relation to local patterns and drivers of volatility in Liverpool and Manchester. Second, housing market differentials and low demand are explored in order to understand their contribution to local market volatility in Liverpool and Manchester. Third, residential mobility within the housing market is analysed in order to enhance our knowledge of the connections and disconnections between places (Lee, 2003, p. 65). The report finds that the issue of local housing market volatility remains a serious one and suggests that economic and housing policy measures must work together to combat this structural problem. As recent experience has shown, the Liverpool and Manchester's housing market remains one of the most volatile in the world. Volatility is, of course, a natural element of any market but there comes a point when it becomes problematic within housing markets. This occurs when, for example, price increases lead to problems of negative equity, gaps between rich and poor begin to widen rapidly, or when low-income households are unable to access suitable housing. Volatility is also a spatial phenomenon in that it affects some regions more than others and at different times during housing market cycles.

a. The nature and extent of the local problems and issues needed to be addressed

In the school trip, to Liverpool and Manchester we have came across the different problems associated with the Liverpool and Manchester. The local community is facing the housing problems associated with the institution. This school trip has increased the knowledge and information about the background of Liverpool and Manchester, and the main reasons behind the housing problems arising in Liverpool and Manchester. By the second half of the nineteenth century the population of the Manchester region had grown to almost 2m as the city developed into a world class manufacturing centre. The landlocked city relied on Liverpool as both an outlet for its finished goods and a landfall for raw materials.
