Abstract

In this paper, the copyright and the unauthorized electronic distribution is a vital issue that recording industry are facing. In this paper, I have analyzed some strategies and planning for controlling the unauthorized electronic distribution of music over the Internet.

Introduction

Every piece of creation is a result of inspiration, and innovation and it comes out of unique creativity of each and every person who creates it. An individual who creates something wants to have an appreciation of his or her creativity so, in order to receive that appreciation he or she makes the public display of its creation. This public display may involve certain susceptibility of risk of theft and stealing of idea and misrepresentation of ideas. To combat this issue, when situation get out of control, management has to take the aid of laws, but before this, management makes some strategies and plan to control from stealing own products. Copyright is right that automatically arises whenever an individual produces a creative piece of work (Delta & Jeffrey, 2002).

The music recording industry has spent a terrific deal of time in the past two decades attempting to educate its consumers about 'piracy' and the notion that copying and sharing copyrighted music files on the Internet is indeed 'piracy'. Unauthorized file sharing has been blamed as the primary cause for the decline in the music sales and has been described as a major threat to creativity. Each year the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the music recording industry worldwide, publishes the annual results of each national music industry (McGee, 2005).

In June 2008, The Times Newspaper ran the headline, “Music Sales Fall to their Lowest Level in over Twenty Years.” With an 8% annual loss, global music sales were thus reported to have declined to the tune of $19.4 billion despite the drastic increase in digital distribution. In fact, the presentation of annual results by the music recording industry is misleading by Internet. Since the late 90s, however, the music industry has experienced a decline in sales and the industry has essentially attributed this loss to the unauthorized sharing of music files on Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks.
