Abstract

The research paper studies the consequence of underage drinking among the youth. Underage drinking trend is on the rise in the United States which called for extensive prevention and correction measures to clean this deadly virus from the society.

Introduction

Teenage is the time when one is at the pinnacle of enthusiasm and invincibility. It is the time when the energy bar of a youth is more than full level and he is courageous enough to conquer all difficulties that come in his/her way. Unfortunately, it has been felt that something has stolen this spirit from some youth. This has diverted the energy of youth to something bad. This is not something else but underage drinking. Underage drinking has become a major problem in the United States. It is often complemented by driving which culminated in severe accidents causing serious injuries to the youth and other affecters. Many steps have been taken to create awareness in the youth about dreadful drinking consequences.

Underage drinking has undesired social and legal culminations that can destroy the lives of a youth.

Discussion

Alcohol is the most widely accepted choice of drug amongst the youth in the United States due to easy accessibility. They can easily get alcohol from anywhere. It has been estimated that roughly five thousand youth got killed due to underage drinking. Among this group, 300 from suicide, 1600 as a aftermath of homicides, 1900 got killed in car crashes including both motor bike and motor car and thousands more mutilated themselves including, burns, drowning and falls. Underage drinking accounts to around 11% of total alcohol consumed in USA (Bonnie & O'Connell, 2004). It is also estimated that More than 90% of the alcohol consumed by the youth is in the form of overindulge drink. The bitter fact is that underage drinkers on average consume more drink at a time compare to average adult drinkers (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention).

When a youth begins taking in alcohol, he is incapable to restrict himself and over the time, he becomes addicted to it. Driving along with underage Drinking is a worst nightmare in the country. Every day we can hear news about the harsh outcome of underage drinking. Thousands of families have been impacted by it.
