Introduction

United Nations (UN) was formed in 1946 with the vision to help member nations in resolving numerous problems they are facing to trigger welfare for their people. It is an international organization which basically acts as a facilitator in resolving conflicts between two or more parties to ensure world peace. Essentially providing platform for dialogue to 193 member nations, it is focused on economic development and upholding of human rights to promote social progress. For the effective achievement and advancement of social progress, there are disparate domains that are needed to be focused upon so that long-term stable outcomes to all the issues are reached. For this purpose, specialized agencies are operating under the umbrella of UN. Even these agencies will not be effective enough if they would address issues of huge magnitude on their own. Financing activities and contributions are extensively required with funding forming the integral part of UN agencies and programs if the vision of the UN is to be effectively realized.

Discussion

The United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP) was formed for the purpose of meeting the financial needs of United Nations agencies and their developmental projects and programs. It was established in the March of 1998 under the supervision and guidance of then Secretary General Kofi Annan. It was formed with the vision to create such body that can facilitate partnerships between the private sector and the UN. United Nations Fund for International Partnerships is supervised by the Advisory Board with the office of the UNFIP being located at the United Nations Headquarters in the New York City of USA. UNFIP is responsible to develop partnerships between UN agencies, departments and their programs with that of the organizations in the private sector in addition to governing and managing them.

UNFIP pre-dominantly work with those foundations and organizations that are aligned to their goals; with organizations depicting aligned goals through their Corporate Social Responsibility program, and share their visions as well. They use their stated goals and vision statements to depict whether these foundations and corporations would support UN causes. UNFIP then works with those organizations in the private sector, to determine the opportunities for collaboration that may trigger public welfare and social development and their goal realization. For instance, an opportunity arises as UN identifies with the need that they are required to fulfill; say as a consequence of natural disaster, in any country and in fulfilling this need more effectively, they could collaborate with an organization that is more specialized in the kind of services that are required.
